“I am a photographer who tried to get into shooting events. Weddings, parties, babies, children, engagement, things like that. I want to spend about $ 500. I knew I wanted to have a fast shutter speed, camera I have now is sooo I always miss slow shot: (big requirement for me is that it has a high resolution, image quality and fast, I do not want to start charging people and then give them a bad image, you know I do like the manual zoom,. but is’nt imperative. “I recommend it to anyone seriously contemplating the purchase of new digital SLR camera to consider two main questions:
1. How much money do you have to spend?? $ 500.? $ 800.? $ 1,500.?
2. What level of photography that you aspire to “progress to” in the coming years? (That is basic beginner, intermediate, or professional / business use).
For most beginners intermediates I usually suggest one of two manufacturers: Canon vs Nikon
1. Canon EOS Rebel XSi models. (Also known as the Canon 450D in the UK) The “kit” package comes with 18-55mm zoom lens. The camera has a flash pop-ups, 12.2 Megapixels, and shutter speeds up to 1/4000th, ISO sensitivity from 100 to 1.600, 7 automatic exposure Scene modes, PLUS Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Exposure Modes Programmed and Manual. It also has a 3-inch LCD screen, max 3.5 frames per second continuously, 9 point AF system, Live View Function, and the ability to record images in Megapixels 3, 6 or 12 PLUS many other features found only on more expensive cameras. Wal-Mart also sells them now for about $ 799. Sam’s Club also has them for $ 729. I also think that Amazon.com has them for around $ 650.I bought one from 6 months ago and use it as my camera’s “back”. I really like it. I get some fantastic photos with it and cannot praise enough. I routinely enlarge my photos to make an 8×10 and 11×14 size enlargements without distortion or loss of detail visible in the picture.
2. Nikon D-90 : If you choose to use Nikon equipment I highly recommend the Nikon D-90 which has 12.3 megapixels, 3 inch monitor with Live View, ISO sensitivity from 200 to 3.200, 11 point AF system with Face Priority, 4.5 frames per second in continuous mode, 5 advanced scene mode for automatic exposure plus Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Programmed Auto plus Manual. D-90 sells for around $ 900-950. (Body ONLY. The 18-55mm lens cost an additional $ 150.-175.) Typically, slightly more expensive Nikon equipment from Canon equipment, but (once owned both Nikon and Canon cameras), I rarely see a BETTER quality results using Nikon equipment.
You might also consider the Nikon D-40 kit ($ 499) equipped with 18-55mm lens. Another good choice is the Nikon D-60 kit ($ 649) is also equipped with 18-55mm lens. All this Nikon can be found at Best Buy or Amazon.com for a very low price.
This option may be the best choice for any beginner to intermediate skill levels, offering the most lenses and other accessories, dealers, and places to buy.
I highly recommend that ALL beginners buy a good book about digital photography and take a class or two from the vocational school or Community Education Centre in your area.
